Speed test
How fast is your connection?
This test measures download, upload and latency between your device and our servers. It takes about 20 seconds.
Ready
Results vary with Wi-Fi signal, the device, the browser and network traffic. For the truest number, test near the router with other devices idle.

Slower than you expected?
- Move the router up high and near a window
- Test again next to the router to rule out Wi-Fi
- Restart the router: unplug it for 30 seconds
- Add a Beacon antenna or Sidekick extender

What is a good internet speed?
For one person, 25 Mbps download handles HD streaming, video calls and browsing comfortably. Add roughly that much for each person streaming or on a video call at the same time; 4K streaming and big downloads want more.
| Activity, per person or screen | Download speed |
|---|---|
| Email, browsing, music | About 1–5 Mbps |
| Video calls | About 2–6 Mbps |
| HD streaming | About 5–8 Mbps |
| 4K streaming | About 25 Mbps |
| Online gaming (playing) | About 3–5 Mbps, plus low latency |
Typical figures; apps and devices vary. See how much data you need and where to put your router.
Why is my speed test lower than my plan’s speed?
Plan speeds are ceilings: the most the plan runs at. Your result also depends on the signal at your address, where the router sits, Wi-Fi between you and the router, the device you test on, and how busy the network is.
What is a good latency?
Lower is better. Under about 50 milliseconds feels responsive for video calls and most online games; higher numbers can make calls lag or games feel slow to react.
Does Wi-Fi change my speed test result?
Yes. Walls and distance slow Wi-Fi. For the truest result, test next to the router with other devices idle, then test again where you usually sit.
